Organ transplantation
Surgical transplantation involves the replacement of an organ or a tissue with another that has been harvested:
- from the same individual (homograft or autograft), a solution that eliminates the risk of rejection and use of immuno-suppressive drugs
- from another individual (allograft), a solution at high risk of rejection due to the inevitable response of the immune system that may attack the introduced organ or tissue
- from an individual of a different species (xenograft).
Clinically speaking, transplantation is the only solution for many degenerative diseases, which often become acute and for which replacement therapy is not always possible.
Medica S.p.A. has developed a specific range of products for adult and paediatric Organ Perfusion, including medical equipment and devices capable of limiting the damage to the harvested organ and increasing the chances of successful transplantation.
