In the field of Oncological Surgery, the Medica group offers the FLEXIPER system through which it is possible to perform HIPEC perfusions and ILP perfusions.
HIPEC stands for Hyperthermic Intraperitoneal Chemoperfusion. It is indicated in the treatment of organ tumors that initially metastasize within the abdominal cavity (carcinosis) and thoracic. It consists in the perfusion of solutions containing high concentrations of chemotherapy and heated to 41-42°C inside the abdominal or thoracic cavity. Perfusion is performed directly in the operating room after surgical removal of the primary tumor and intra-abdominal (intrathoracic) metastases, a procedure known as Cytoreduction.
ILP stands for Isolated Limb Perfusion and is indicated in the treatment of Melanomas of the limbs and soft tissue sarcomas. The vascular system of the limb to be treated is isolated from the from the rest of the circulatory system and by means of an arterial and a venous cannula the blood is recirculated between the machine and the limb, keeping it at a temperature of 40 °C. High concentrations of Melphalan, TNF Alfa are injected into the circuit for a selective treatment of the cancerous lesion.
